Mental Health Counseling Services
Students with poor academic performance, disciplinary issues and truancy may be dealing with a mental health issue such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem, relationship difficulty, anger, self-harm, high risk behaviors, etc.
Counselors guide students to develop the skills needed to manage the issues and allow them to be successful at school.
A team of mental health professionals are available at SHACC during the school year and the summer.
For mental health emergencies call Hiawatha Behavioral Health 24-hour Emergency Service at (906) 632-2805 or go to the emergency room at My Michigan Medical Center.
"Misunderstanding mental health leads to discrimination and stigma which affects students' willingness to seek help for the issues that they are struggling with. Students need to be reassured that it is common for adolescents to experience mental health issues and that it is "okay" to ask for help."
